February 28/March 1
It's officially autumn now, but you wouldn't realise it would you? Gisborne throws up a gorgeous summer's day for us to enjoy. Sun shining and waves to be had at Midway beach this weekend. Patrol teams ONO, WHITU and WARU have now completed their last patrol for the season. Fantastic to see such good numbers down patrolling Midway as the season draws to a close. Only two more weeks until the National Surf Lifesaving Championships!
The summer continues! In typical Gisborne fashion it looks like a stunner of a week leading into Nationals next weekend. Small surf and hot days. We are all done. Patrol teams TAHI, RUA and TORU have finished off the rostered patrols for their season. Still averaging nine lifeguards per patrol shift at this late stage. Awesome guys you have been fantastic this summer. Only one more weekend for patrol hours during the Nationals. I hope you're all ready for it!
National Surf Life Saving Championships Weekend! There is gear and the finest lifeguards New Zealand has to offer all over the place. What a sight to see. Thankfully, the threat of Cyclone Pam on the horizon was on hold until just as the prize giving on Sunday afternoon was well underway. Congratulations to all those who competed! Midway second behind Mount Maunganui is an amazing result. We are proud of you all. And a big thank you to all who gave up some spare time to make sure the community of Gisborne still had a safe place to enjoy Midway Beach during such a massive event. A very successful patrolling season for us at Midway. Look forward to doing it all over again next season! See you then.
